Dog available for adoption

We are thrilled to say that Lily, our 9 year old Lhaso Apso, is in a foster home with a wonderful couple who hope to adopt her. Applying Lily’s daily eye medications is very difficult, so once this can be done safely, Lily will have a permanent new home.

Sophia is an 11 month old mix breed dog that needs a new home, so FFD has agreed to facilitate an owner to owner adoption for her. That means Sophia stays in her current home while we advertise her, schedule meet & greets with people interested in meeting her and then advising the owner who we think the best adopter would be. There is no adoption fee for owner to owner adoptions.

Sophia might be a mix of terrier and black mouth cur, with a sleek reddish brown coat that has a streak of black down her back. She is vaccinated, spayed and in excellent health. Energy, playfulness and friendliness are the first qualities you notice when meeting Sophia. She enjoys going to the dog park when there are not too many bigger dogs surrounding her.

Weighing only 33 lbs, she is intimidated by larger dogs. With an active family, Sopia will thrive and be a loving family member. Call 508-548-7742 to make an appointment to meet Sophia.

Toby, an 18 month old Great Dane who weighs only 122lb (not the 132 lbs we were told), has received several good adoption applications already, so call us ASAP if you want to meet him.

He’s a very happy dog that likes to chase a ball and sometimes return it, run around in our play area and lean against you for lots of petting and stroking. Toby is learning to walk on a leash, already knows “sit” and “down” and is very food motivated. He will need someone strong to walk him until he’s more comfortable with a leash and matures a bit.

Toby is vaccinated and neutered and will be microchipped. If a very large, friendly, goofy dog is your type of dog, call 508-548-7742 for an appointment to meet Toby.

Late next week we expect to have some new dogs at the shelter. Most of them will be around 6 months old and will likely grow into medium sized, 40ish pound dogs. We will have more information then.

We are offering our Vet Assistance Program for residents of Falmouth, Mashpee and Bourne. The program is intended to help ensure your dog is able to see a veterinarian for care when needed. We also offer our $60 Food Voucher Program. The food vouchers are redeemable at Uptown Dog on Route 28A in West Falmouth or at Falmouth Pet Center on Route 28 near Stop & Shop. To participate in these programs, please call our office at 508-548-7742 and leave a message specifying what you need. Please be sure to state your name and phone number slowly and clearly.

Monetary donations are always needed here at the shelter so we can continue caring for the dogs in our custody and help low income dog owners pay for veterinary care and dog food. Our goal is that with our help, many more dogs will stay healthy - or get heathy - and live longer and happier lives. The Cape Cod Foundation provides grant funding to us and we are supremely grateful for their support. Unfortunately, our costs exceed our grant support. If you would like to help provide medical care for the dogs in our community, donations by check (PO Box 438, Falmouth, MA 02541) or or via PayPal are always welcomed.

Friends of Falmouth Dogs holds state license #0183.
